Where to get Ethereum in Australia and New Zealand
Every AUSTRAC-registered Australian exchange and FSPR-registered New Zealand exchange sells ether (ETH) for local currency. Trading fees below are the house figures from our USDT guide; the withdrawal column is ETH-specific, and where an exchange only says “network fee” the figure floats with gas and appears on the send form.

With gas near zero, a fixed exchange fee such as 0.003 ETH (about US$7.50 at the early-September price of US$2,511) is the largest cost of a small deposit; sending to your own wallet first does not avoid it.
Wallets. MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Exodus and Ledger (via Ledger Live) all hold ETH and add no fee of their own; the only cost is gas. MetaMask’s setup page warns to install the app “with 10M+ downloads” and to back the Secret Recovery Phrase up offline — that phrase is the wallet, and no casino or exchange ever needs it.
Which network. Every casino we review takes ETH on Ethereum mainnet. Some cashiers show layer-2 or BSC entries too; we could not verify which of ours do, so treat mainnet as the default and check the network label in the cashier before picking anything else at the exchange.
The credit-card ban on online gambling (Interactive Gambling Amendment (Credit and Other Measures) Act 2023, in force 11 June 2024) binds Australian-licensed operators; buying ETH at an exchange is a crypto purchase on your statement, not a gambling transaction.
Setting it up
- Open the exchange account, complete its identity check (all of the above require one) and fund it by PayID or Osko, free and in minutes at every Australian exchange above.
- Buy ETH for the deposit plus the withdrawal fee, which CoinSpot says “must not be included in your total sending amount”.
- In the casino cashier choose Deposit, then Ethereum, and copy the 0x address with the copy button rather than retyping it.
- In the exchange’s Send or Withdraw form paste the address, select the Ethereum network, enter the amount and confirm with 2FA and, where the exchange sends one, the email link.
- Copy the transaction hash and watch it on etherscan.io. Ethereum produces a block every 12 seconds; the CoinsPaid processor behind many cashiers credits ETH after 2 confirmations, or 10 for larger amounts. Other processors differ, and the cashier rarely says.
Fees, limits and timing
Gas. A plain ETH transfer uses 21,000 gas units, priced in gwei (one-billionth of an ETH) as a base fee plus an optional tip. On 6 September 2026 Etherscan’s gas tracker showed an average of 0.046 gwei and priced a standard transfer at roughly US$0.002, confirming in about 30 seconds. The same arithmetic at 30 gwei gives 0.00063 ETH (about US$1.60) and at 100 gwei 0.0021 ETH (about US$5.30) — the range to budget for in a busy period. Wallets show the estimate before you confirm.
What the exchange charges. The trading fee on the way in, the ETH withdrawal fee on the way out, and the trading fee again when you sell. Independent Reserve’s 0.003 ETH is the one fixed figure we could verify; the others show a floating fee at the time of the send.
What the casino charges. No recommended casino publishes a fee on ETH deposits or withdrawals. Deposit minimums: A$20 equivalent at Golden Crown and Richard Casino, A$25 at RocketPlay, A$30 at Neospin, €20 equivalent at Spin Samurai, €5 at Bizzo and €50 at Need for Spin. The cashier quotes the ETH amount at its own rate, so send slightly over the minimum.
Timing. Deposits: minutes. Withdrawals: approval first (up to 24 hours at RocketPlay, 24–48 at Golden Crown, 0–48 at Neospin, 24–72 at Need for Spin), then the send — “instant” at Golden Crown, Richard Casino and RocketPlay, about 45 minutes at Neospin, within 24 hours at Need for Spin, within 72 hours at Spin Samurai. Caps: A$800 a day at Need for Spin, A$1,500 a day at Spin Samurai, A$9,000 a week at RocketPlay.
When it fails
Wrong network. ETH sent on BSC, Arbitrum or another chain to an address the casino only watches on mainnet does not show up, and recovery is slow or refused. Confirm the network on both sides before every send.
“Insufficient funds for gas.” From your own wallet the gas comes out of the same balance you are sending, so a wallet holding exactly A$50 of ETH cannot send A$50. Leave a remainder, or use the wallet’s “max” button, which subtracts the estimated fee.
Deposit stuck on “pending”. Look up the hash on Etherscan. Success with the block count climbing means the casino is waiting for its confirmation threshold. Still pending on-chain means your tip was too low; MetaMask and Exodus let you speed up or cancel by resubmitting with a higher fee. Success on Etherscan but nothing in the cashier after 15 minutes: send support the hash.
Address rejected. Ethereum addresses carry a mixed-case checksum (EIP-55), so a wallet that respects it refuses a mistyped address; the standard puts the odds of a typo slipping through at 0.0247%. Re-copy from the cashier and compare the first and last four characters of what you pasted — clipboard-swapping malware exists.
Sent to a contract address. Casino deposit addresses are ordinary accounts; paste a token contract (the USDT contract, say) by mistake and the ETH is gone. Etherscan marks contracts as “Contract” on the address page.
Ethereum missing from the cashier. USDT, Bitcoin and Litecoin are on the same seven cashiers.
Withdrawing
All seven recommended casinos pay out in ETH, with minimums of A$20 equivalent at Golden Crown and Richard Casino, A$30 at RocketPlay, €20 at Spin Samurai and €50 at Need for Spin. Paste your exchange deposit address — from the exchange’s Receive screen, ETH on the Ethereum network — into the withdrawal form. Once it lands, sell for AUD or NZD and withdraw by bank transfer.
Whether ID is asked for before the first payout varies: RocketPlay states crypto players need no verification before a first withdrawal, while Bizzo and Golden Crown ask for documents first. Each review’s Banking section says which rule applies and how quickly the money moved once requested — the figure that matters.
Tax. The ATO treats crypto as a CGT asset: swapping ETH for another coin or selling it for AUD is a CGT event, with the gain worked out on the Australian-dollar market value at the time. A crypto asset “you acquire and use in a short period of time to buy items for personal use” is more likely to be a personal use asset, and a gain on a personal use asset acquired for under A$10,000 is exempt; one held “for some time” before use is less likely to qualify. The ATO gives no gambling example and we are not tax advisers — keep the exchange records and ask one if the sums are material.
